On January 3, Iowans will officially sound the start the 2008 US presidential election. Just five days later the Granite Staters of politics-obsessed New Hampshire will brave the cold and cast their votes.

Every day brings another reason the world is anxious to see George W Bush’s successor in the White House: climate change, the global economy, the plummeting dollar, Pakistan, oil, Iran, Iraq, China, the Israelis and Palestinians. But despite being directly affected by the result, 95% of the world’s population is, of course, disenfranchised.

Shouldn’t you have your say?

If you’re normally resident on the island of Ireland, click on the ElectionVine Polling Place to the right and choose a candidate. One IP address, one vote. Bring friends to www.irelandcaucus.com for the chance to have their say, too - and vote for the candidate you’d like to see in the White House. Like the Iowa caucus, you can change your vote if you want to vote tactically for your second preference.

Polls close one minute past midnight Irish time on January 2, when we’ll declare Ireland’s picks for Democrat and Republican nominees!

Who will Ireland choose?
