On January 3, Iowans will officially sound the start the 2008 US presidential election. Just five days later the Granite Staters of politics-obsessed New Hampshire will brave the cold and cast their votes.

Every day brings another reason the world is anxious to see George W Bush’s successor in the White House: climate change, the global economy, the plummeting dollar, Pakistan, oil, Iran, Iraq, China, the Israelis and Palestinians. But despite being directly affected by the result, 95% of the world’s population is, of course, disenfranchised.
